Hochjoch Hospiz 2,413m
The Hochjoch Hospiz is an Alpine Association hut run by the Berlin section of the German Alpine Association. It is located at the far end of the Rofental valley in the Ötztal Alps at an altitude of 2,413 metres and is the base for climbing many high-altitude tours. Welcome to the hut!

Our history
At the suggestion of Franz Senn, the original hut was built at an altitude of 2450 metres on the south-eastern slope of the Rofental between 1869 and 1872. From 1911 it belonged to the then Mark Brandenburg of the German and Austrian Alpin Association (DOeAV). The building was constructed in the then common form of a crouched building with a sheet metal-covered monopitch roof directly on the slope in order to be able to divert any avalanches that might occur via the roof.
During the First World War, the hut was looted, the outer walls were also deformed by the pressure of the slope and the roof was destroyed several times by avalanches, so that it was no longer usable. From the early 1920s, there were therefore plans to build a new building elsewhere. However, it was not until 1927 that the new Hochjoch Hospice on the opposite side of the Rofenache valley was opened; the old building has not been maintained since then and is now derelict. A thorough renovation with new building services took place between 2002 and 2004.
